Missouri has nine prairie focus areas identified around the state that have supported Greater Prairie Chicken Leks and/or where conservation grassland areas are located.  WHIP applications with offered acres within seven miles of the focus area boundary are eligible for a higher cost share rate (See the “2007 Missouri WHIP Eligible Conservation Practices” link above for details).  Maps of the nine prairie focus areas follow:

  1. Eldorado Prairies Focus Area Map

  2. Golden-Dorris Creek Prairie Focus Area Map

  3. Greenridge Township Focus Area Map

  4. Hi Lonesome Prairie Focus Area Map

  5. Mystic Prairie Focus Area Map

  6. Pawnee Prairie/Dunn Ranch Focus Area Map

A certified planner will assist you to develop a wildlife habitat development plan and complete all required information for your WHIP application.  Submitted applications are ranked, with the highest priority given to those applications with the highest score on the WHIP scoring worksheet. Applications that provide the most wildlife habitat benefit are the most competitive for WHIP funding.
