Lincoln University GIS/RS Laboratory

The Lincoln University Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing (GIS/RS) Laboratory is and integral part of the University's Center of Excellence for Leadership in GIS.  The Center initiative receives financial and programmatic support from the United States Department of Agriculture/Natural Resources Conservation Service. Through Center activities, Lincoln University envisions becoming nationally and internationally known for academic excellence in GIS.

 The GIS/RS Laboratory serves four important functions for both the University and region:

  • The laboratory is an academic teaching facility in support of the Lincoln curriculum.  Classes include Fundamentals of GIS, Basic Photo Interpretation and Map Reading, Fundamentals of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications.
 
  • Regional training short courses are conducted in the lab for government agencies and private industry.
 
  • The facility and equipment are available to faculty and staff of Lincoln University and other academic institutions who wish to use GIS and remote sensing techniques in research endeavors.
 
  • Lincoln University and Center of Excellence staff is available to contract project applications of GIS, image processing or related technologies.

In addition to the formal curriculum, students may be accepted into the Center of Excellence Incentive Award Program.   This program provides incentive awards to students majoring in agriculture, natural resources, and/or related sciences.  These awards can include funding for tuition, room and board, and a book voucher.
