USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) State
Conservationist J.R. Flores today announced a funding opportunity for
wetland protection, restoration and enhancement activities on eligible
lands in Missouri. Proposals for projects are due by Friday, February
17. |

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in conjunction with
the Phelps City Drainage District is utilizing $452,000 in Emergency
Watershed Protection Program (EWP) exigency funds to remove eight-foot
sand deposits left alongside the ditches of Highway 136 following the
summer 2011 Missouri River flood. |

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that Missouri will
receive $35 million in Emergency Watershed Protection Program (EWP)
funding, the third most of 25 states and Puerto Rico, in response to the
April 2011 Mississippi River flooding of southeastern Missouri. |

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) announced that proposals
for conservation projects addressing water quality and wetland
conservation in the Mississippi River Basin are due to NRCS by March 19. |

Sponsors requesting Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) assistance
through the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) have until
January 31, 2012, to submit letters of application to State
Conservationist J.R. Flores. Sponsors include any legal subdivision of
state government or a state agency. Cities, county commissions and levee
or drainage districts are examples of local sponsors. |

ranchers who assert that they were discriminated against when seeking
USDA farm loans to ensure that they know about the claims process.
